I was Tintin, and I'm feeling the firm plastic breasts of my friend Peg, the Lego minifigure, and the lovely punk-rock Elaine provided the music. The kids had fun too, I swear.
This year we tried something new and checked out the Enchanted Hallowe'en Village. It's an outdoor event put on by the Luminara Society, the cool folks who brought us the lantern festivals in the summer. It was amazing, we are so glad we went. It was held at the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society park, which is home to the Victoria model train association. They maintain a fabulous little miniature railway track that runs through the forest. You sit in top of mini train cars and there's a steam powered locomotive driven by one of the model train group's conductors. Throughout the forest there are lanterns, spooky dinner parties set up, ghosts in the trees, carved pumpkins, mirrors, and painted umbrellas. It was an incredible amount of work that resulted in a fabulous family event. A few pics before my camera batteries died.
Leif and his long-time friend Taro were Thompson and Thomson, the twin detectives from the Tintin comic strip. They were thrilled when a hipster Dad in the street knew they were T & T. Everyone else kept saying "Oh look, two Charlie Chaplins!". Grrr. Broaden your horizons people.
Here is the only picture we have of all the darlings in their costumes. I'm so glad Grandpa thought to grab his camera, mine were still dead. Hannah is TRON (she glows in the dark!) and Ivy is a cheeky mummy.
When all was said and done, we bid a bittersweet farewell to yet another wonderful seasonal event.
Luckily, they're already looking forward to Christmas. You know what they want? Snow. Buckets of the stuff. Fingers crossed.
43 days to go . . .
xoxo
