A walking we will go.

We have some traditions we engage in in the fall. One is a mushroom walk. This year we tried out a new trail, out in Metchosin near a friend's house. We hoped to find a big variety of mushrooms and gather some caps to make spore prints. We scored on both points.

That last one won the butt-ugly award, there were a bunch all together, so we know it wasn't just one straggly, worn-out shroom.

We grabbed some delicate samples, put them gill-side down on some paper and covered them with a bowl overnight. The colour of their spores helped to ID them. Some left white spores so didn't show up on the paper. Check out the purple spore print left by the yellow shroom caps!

That was last week, and now the ground is blanketed in fallen leaves, which are alternately dry and crunchy or wet and soggy. Perfect for more shroomies to grow. We might just head on another walk soon.
